Refreshing Your Brand & Website: A Step-By-Step Guide to Updates

You invested in a solid brand and website a few years ago, but how do you keep it fresh today? I’m glad you asked! This post is a step-by-step guide to refreshing your business.

Our Creative House recently got our own little refresh in which we updated our visual content as well as made small tweaks to our website, pricing, copy and portfolio. A refresh project, which should happen every one or two years, does not always have to involve a ton of change. Sometimes simply updating your photos and portfolio is enough. However, a refresh is a great time to review all facets of your brand and website for updates.

Which leads us to our first step:

Brand and Website Designer Based in Nashville TN

STEP 1: Assess Your Business

Are you happy with your website layout? Does your contract fully cover your needs? Is your social media output what you’d like it to be? A refresh is a great time to slow down and ask yourself questions about your brand and your process. So often, business owners are so focused on their work, their clients, and their products that they rarely slow down long enough to take stock of the state of their own business. A refresh project is your time to be intentional for yourself.

STEP 2: Assemble Your Team

What kind of partners do you need to reach your goals? Do you need your friendly neighborhood brand and website designer (that would be me)? A photographer or videographer? Accountant? Social Media Manager? Avoid trying to do everything yourself and take the time to find the right vendors to best update your brand.

For Ivory & Green’s recent refresh, I worked with Gumball Media for my videography and social content, Molly Lins Photography for my updated brand photos, and we shot at the beautiful Karios Studios in Nashville, Tennessee. This team of pros brought my vision to life even better than I could have ever done on my own. My business benefited from having outside eyes, each bringing their own creative flare to the table.

STEP 3: Update Update Update

Brand and Website Annual Refresh

Now that you have your renewed vision and your fresh content, it’s time to put it all into action. Update your website and social media platforms with all the new visual content. Take time to go through each page of your website, reading and refreshing all the written material as well.
Here are a few things to ask as you review your site’s content:

  • Does my website make it easy for clients to get in touch with me?
  • Is this copy consistent with my business’ current vibe and goals?
  • Are my clients able to find what they are looking for on my site?
  • Is there anything I want to add to my site that would save me time answering questions for prospective clients?
  • Is this pricing up to date?
  • Is my portfolio up to date?
  • Has my business had any press features or accolades that should be mentioned on the site?

STEP 4: Make a Plan To Check In On Your Brand & Website Throughout The Year

Lastly, set some dates on the calendar to check in on your business throughout the year. It’s so easy to get sucked into the daily grind and forget to invest in your own business’ wellbeing. So make a plan for how you will engage with social media, write blog posts, or add portfolio photos to your site throughout the rest of the year.

With all of that said, our Creative House literally exists to keep your brand and website looking hot! If a refresh feels overwhelming to you, we are here to help!
